Word for word, the review ask a tow driver can say at the drop-off

The exact words a tow driver can say to ask for a Google review at the drop-off, plus the follow-up text and replies, for customers who just had a bad night.

Your driver just pulled a minivan out of a ditch at 11 p.m. with two kids in the back seat. The customer is shaken, grateful and about to drive off in a rideshare. That is the best review moment your company will get all week, and most drivers let it pass because they do not know what to say without sounding like they want a tip.

Here are the exact words. Print them, tape them to the dash, and have every driver say them the same way.

Why the ask has to be at the scene

Towing is not like other trades. A large share of your volume never chose you: impounds, private property tows, rotation calls. Those customers are the ones who write the angry reviews, and nothing you say will change that.

Your retail customers are different. They called you, you showed up, and you got them out of trouble. The relief is real, but it fades fast. By the next morning they are dealing with the insurance claim and the repair shop, and your driver is a blur.

That is why the numbers in this industry look the way they do. Across 23,074 towing listings the average rating is 4.4 and 20.5% of companies sit below four stars. The median company has 31 reviews. The fix is not fewer bad reviews. It is many more good ones from the people you actually helped.

At the drop-off: what the driver says

Say this after the vehicle is unloaded and the paperwork is signed, never before.

Standard version:

"Glad we got you sorted out tonight. One favor. If we did right by you, a Google review helps us more than anything. I'll text you the link right now so you don't have to look for it."

When the customer is upset about the situation, not about you:

"I know tonight was rough. If I made it a little easier, it would mean a lot if you said so on Google. I'll send the link and you can do it whenever."

When there are kids or the customer is clearly rattled:

Skip the ask out loud. Just say "Take care of yourself," and let the text do it the next morning.

Three rules for the driver. Never mention the review before the job is done. Never ask in front of a police officer on scene. Never offer anything in return, no discount and no gift card, because Google bans incentives for reviews.

The text the driver sends

Send it before the driver leaves, from the company number, not the driver's cell.

"Hi, this is Mike with Rapid Tow. Thanks for trusting us tonight. If you have a minute, here's our Google review link: [link]. Drive safe."

Next-morning version, for the customers who were too rattled to ask:

"Good morning, this is Rapid Tow. Hope you made it home okay and the car is in good hands. If our driver helped, a quick Google review would mean a lot: [link]."

Send one text, never a reminder. One clean ask is respectful. Three asks is spam.

Replies to the reviews you get

Reply to every review within a day. It shows future callers that a real person runs the company.

Five stars, short:

"Thank you, Sarah. Glad Mike got you home safe. Hope we never see you on the side of the road again."

Five stars mentioning the driver by name:

"Thanks for calling out Dan. We'll make sure he sees this. Drive safe out there."

One star from an impound or private property tow:

"We understand nobody wants to find their vehicle towed. This was a private property tow requested by the lot owner, and we followed the posted rules and the local fee limits. If you have questions about the release, call us and ask for the office manager."

Keep that one calm and factual. You are not writing to the reviewer. You are writing to the next person reading it.

Make it a habit, not a campaign

Two things make this stick.

Track it. Put a column on the driver log: "asked yes or no." Look at it every Friday. A driver who asks every retail customer will produce a steady stream of reviews within a month.

Make the link easy. Get your short review link from your Google Business Profile and save it as a text shortcut on every driver's phone or in your dispatch software. If sending it takes more than two taps, it will not happen at 2 a.m.

The Google reviews guide covers how to separate retail calls from involuntary ones in your call log, and the Google Business Profile guide covers the rest of the listing. The benchmark report shows how your count compares.
